The Sprint race of the MotoGP Spanish GP resulted in the first penalty of the season due to tire pressure infringement. Fabio Quartararo did not comply with the limit and was penalized by eight seconds, which dropped the Monster Energy Yamaha rider from third to fifth in the standings.
It was a race in tricky conditions, with parts of the asphalt wet from the rain that had fallen hours before. However, it is not the first time that Jerez has been in the spotlight due to tire pressures.
Miguel Oliveira, Trackhouse Racing rider, was asked if he had concerns in this regard. In his response, the Portuguese denied and argued that the rules should be suspended in wet track races:
– No. In the race, the track was normal and that made our lives a bit easier. However, the tire pressure rules when the track is wet like in the Sprint race should not be in effect, in my opinion, because it’s not this 0.005sbar pressure that will give you the answer to a good performance. But it’s the rule, it is what it is. But my opinion is that when conditions are stable, everyone is able to comply with the rules and it’s a bit easier.
