The Malaysia and Sepang tests gave the impression that Yamaha could have a very interesting season in MotoGP. However, progress doesn’t seem to have been as clear compared to their competitors.

At the moment, the YZR-M1 appears to be the least competitive bike – the manufacturer has only 13 points, compared to 22 points from Aprilia and KTM ahead of them. And in both races, Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha) was beaten by two fellow manufacturer riders.

Carlo Pernat provided his analysis of the Argentina GP for the GPOne.com website, and highlighted that something seems to be missing from the Iwata manufacturer – possibly in terms of bike development:

– Yamaha has been a bit cornered, we all expected more, we saw that even in the practice sessions. Instead of something that’s still not working there, maybe there is still some important development missing, maybe there is some part of the development that isn’t right. Seeing Quartararo there makes it clear that they’re not there yet.
