Hours after starting, the first MotoE World Cup race in Mugello ended with Mattia Casadei taking the victory. A crash by Lukas Tulovic at the end of the first lap forced the race to be postponed, which ended up being after what is officially the second race of the round.
Alessandro Zaccone (Tech3 E-Racing) had a good start from pole position, resisting the attacks of his opponents in the first corner. Tulovic and Héctor Garzó (Dynavolt Intact GP) followed the Italian closely, with Casadei (LCR E-Team) in fourth.
On the first lap, Kevin Manfredi (Ongetta SIC58 Squadra Corse) couldn’t avoid a crash, and in the final corner, Tulovic had a violent fall, remaining immobilized on the ground. This situation prompted a red flag to assist the German rider.
At the time of the interruption, Zaccone led ahead of Casadei and Mattia Ferrari (Felo Gresini), while Miquel Pons (Axxis-MSi) was in fourth place. With a tight schedule in the following minutes, the race had to be rescheduled for the late afternoon. Upon resuming, Zaccone managed to stay ahead with an aggressive approach until turn two, with Garzó behind him. Casadei was third, ahead of his teammate Eric Granado.
At the front of the race, Zaccone was able to open a small gap to Garzó, who was overtaken by Casadei four laps from the end. Garzó briefly passed the Italian again at turn one of the penultimate lap, but couldn’t hold the position.
The decision for victory came at the beginning of the last lap, with Casadei managing to overtake Zaccone by taking advantage of the slipstream on the main straight. Until the end, the LCR E-Team rider maintained the position to secure the triumph ahead of Zaccone. Garzó closed the podium, followed by championship leader Kevin Zannoni (Openbank Aspar) who managed to overtake Granado right at the end.
