After Valentino Rossi and Marc Márquez, Francesco Bagnaia became the third MotoGP era rider to become champion of the premier class in two consecutive years. The rider is with the dominant Ducati team, but even within the Borgo Panigale manufacturer he manages to make a difference – especially in the race.
Former rider Mat Mladin, who competed in the 500cc in 1993, told GPOne.com that Bagnaia has an approach that is crucial to his success, admitting that he is impressed by it:
– Pecco’s approach, which involves continuing to do practice laps with old tires to make the bike as consistent as possible, is why he is a two-time world champion. He may not be the fastest rider ever, but he sticks to his ideas in practice, forgets about qualifying, does his job, and then in the race he simply does the same work he did in practice. It’s really impressive to see.
