In 2027, MotoGP will have new technical regulations. One of Dorna’s hopes is that these regulations will attract new manufacturers, with rumors of BMW being a potential interested party.
Massimo Rivola, CEO of Aprilia Racing, believes that a new manufacturer is needed and specifically mentioned the Bavarians: ‘I hope so. I see BMW very fast in the Superbike tests with [Toprak] Razgatlioglu. That would be good. To be honest, we need more manufacturers than satellite teams – with all due respect to people who want to invest. But for the good of motorcycle racing, we have to grow’.
The Italian also commented: ‘I don’t know if Kawasaki or Suzuki want to come back, but it would be good to have a manufacturer joining for sure’.
Currently, there are five manufacturers in MotoGP – Aprilia, Ducati, Honda, KTM, and Yamaha. At the end of 2022, Suzuki ended its project. GasGas is represented as a sponsor brand, but it is not a separate manufacturer from KTM.
