As Sprint races arrived in MotoGP this year, being held at every Grand Prix unlike Formula 1 – which only applies the format in a limited number of rounds. Therefore, the level of demand and fatigue increased in 2023.
Massimo Rivola, CEO of Aprilia Racing, argued on the Mister Helmet podcast that there could be fewer Sprint races, suggesting a middle ground compared to F1:
– I proposed the Superpole, but they told me that with the current format with Sprint it doesn’t fit, the timing doesn’t fit. I have to say that, objectively, the Sprint has increased interest in MotoGP and leaves everyone tired – the riders, but also us. Honestly, if we did half and not all, I wouldn’t mind, so it would be enough to make a halfway point between us and Formula 1, let’s say – they do five or six.
