Álex Rins has one more year on his contract with Monster Energy Yamaha in MotoGP, and his place doesn’t seem to be at risk – with the manufacturer placing its trust in the rider.

The start wasn’t easy for the Spaniard, who arrived in 2024 after a previous year heavily affected by injuries. It ended up being his worst season in the premier class in terms of points (31), but even so, he earned a renewal for two more years until the end of 2026.

This year, the YZR-M1 is more competitive, but so far Rins has not been able to keep up with teammate Fabio Quartararo – despite having been the best Yamaha rider at the Argentina GP.

Massimo Meregalli, team director, told Motorsport.com that he believes the Jerez test at the end of April may have been a turning point for the #42:

– Everyone knows how fast Álex is. It’s true that he also had some physical difficulties. On the Monday at Jerez he was very strong and, moreover, he had the opportunity to work in peace. And they worked very well and I really hope that was the turning point of his season, because he left Jerez happy and it had been a while since I had seen or heard Álex like that. So, I’m confident.

The French GP took place after the Jerez test. The main race, due to rain, was held under very particular conditions. Qualifying was not encouraging for Rins, who ended up 14th, but he finished the Sprint race in the points for the first time in over two years (eighth place), and in the main race he came in 12th.

The rider also expressed complaints about the lack of grip, in addition to being one of many penalised with a Long Lap for swapping bikes after the formation lap.
