There has been a change of personnel at the highest level in Germany. Markus Flasch will be the new Director of BMW Motorrad and will succeed Markus Schramm in the motorcycle department of the German brand.
The announcement was made official on October 5, 2023, through a press release from BMW. Schramm ends his term as Motorrad director shortly after the brand celebrated its 100th year of existence.
It was also under Schramm’s leadership that Motorrad experienced the most successful years in its history. Schramm has been at the helm of Motorrad since 1991 and, during his time with the brand, has accumulated a large number of accolades. The BMW brand has become even more of a household name for motorcyclists, with several models in the sport, sport-naked, sport-touring, classic, and especially adventure-touring categories (definitely adventure, as BMW was one of the pioneers of the concept long ago).
The brand even ventured into the Cruiser segment with the R 18, brought the M brand to the Motorrad family with the M 1000 RR, M 1000 R, and M 1000 XR, and delved into the realm of electric two-wheeled vehicles with the CE model series.
Markus Flasch is currently the Director of Product Line at BMW and is responsible for the development and design of all BMW vehicles in the mid-range and luxury classes, as well as the Rolls-Royce brand. Even though his work revolves around four-wheeled vehicles, Flasch is a passionate motorcyclist, in addition to working with the BMW Group since 2015. Previously, he was the director of BMW M GmbH and it was under his leadership that the M brand became one of the leading suppliers of high-performance and high-performance cars.
Now, however, Flasch is ready to take on the monumental role as head of BMW Motorrad. He will officially assume the position on November 1, 2023.
