Rest day at Dakar 2024 is time for intermediate evaluations. While Ricky Brabec leads in the overall classification, Mário Patrão is the strongest in the Veteran Trophy so far.
The Portuguese rider competes on a Honda without assistance team and is imposing himself among the more experienced riders: he leads clearly with a 3h07m43s advantage over David Pabiska (SP Moto Bohemia/KTM). So far, Patrão has only not won the prologue and the fourth stage in his category, and he is 30th overall.
One of the other winners was Pabiska, the second-placed rider, while David McBride (Vendetta Racing UAE/Husqvarna) is in third. The British rider was the first leader, winning the prologue. Despite being a Dakar rookie, Bartomiej Tabin (Orion Moto Racing Group/Husqvarna) has extensive experience in motorcycling and is fourth among the veterans, ahead of Zhang Min (Zero Mileage Rally Team/KTM) who completes the top five.
