Marc Márquez managed to get a podium at one of his favorite tracks, but that didn’t surprise him, he admits, with the Gresini Racing rider confirming that he expected to finish well positioned, and showing signs that there is room for improvement, although he admits that there are actually better riders and others similar.
Speaking to journalists in Austin, the Spaniard had this to say about the Sprint race: ‘Honestly, today second place was something I expected. This morning we took a step forward, but on laps two, three, and four the feelings were terrible and I started to have problems that didn’t exist during the practice sessions, which made me not focused enough and it takes time to absorb these problems in the riding style, but then I waited for my moment and was able to avoid bigger problems, I was faster and more consistent and that gave me the opportunity to gain some advantage on the last lap’.
However, he believes there is room to improve his riding although he admits that currently there are other riders at a higher level:
– Today was… for example in Portimão, honestly speaking, the feelings were better, I rode better. Here I didn’t ride well, I feel that I can improve some things in my riding style but still I was able to be second and in Portimão, I felt that I was riding perfectly and I was second, so this gives me the feeling that I am not at the limit of the bike and I feel that tomorrow I can be more consistent in lap times because [Maverick] Viñales was super consistent and fast.’
