After finishing in seventh place in 2023, earning 150 points, Alonso López is already looking forward to what will happen in this new season in the Moto2 world championship.
‘The truth is that I am very happy with how the testing day went, because I felt very good with my Boscoscuro with the new Pirelli tires. This new way of riding fits my style. I went on vacation with energy for the next season. The work done last season was very good. I expected more, I won’t hide it, but a series of circumstances prevented me from being further ahead in the standings. Aldeguer did very well, had a great finish’, highlighted López in an interview with Motosprint cited by Motosan.
López’s teammate at Boscoscuro, Fermín Aldeguer, finished third in the last edition of the intermediate category of speed.
‘Our problem is that when we performed poorly at a circuit, there were 26 bikes that could beat us. And when the situation was reversed, we only had two bikes ahead of us, mine and Aldeguer’s, and the best among the Kalex riders might finish in third place. In Germany, for example, we finished fifth and that was a very good result, but in the end it was just a fifth place. In 2023, there was a period of learning and improvement’, he rewound.
The young rider also recalled his first Moto2 victory in Misano in 2022: ‘I won my first race in Misano, when there were ten laps to go, I already had goosebumps, felt the heat, and had a one-second advantage, which was very narrow. With one mistake, I could lose it, but when I crossed the finish line, I felt a spectacular relaxation’.
Like almost all young riders, the dream of MotoGP is to be fulfilled soon:
– There is this idea, but I would like to fight for a world championship, I don’t know if I would make that change at all costs, if they offer me a very good bike, with good conditions, obviously I would accept it, because I believe I can be very competitive. In MotoGP, the level is much higher, but it’s easier to go fast, that’s why everything is much more balanced.
To conclude, he spoke about the references that guide him: ‘I was fascinated by the way Casey Stoner rode and he still inspires me today. I would like to see him ride again. I didn’t have the opportunity to talk much with him, only in 2022 in Phillip Island, when he congratulated me after a victory. I am very good friends with both Álex and Marc, and now that they live in Madrid, we are sometimes together. Marc is a reference to observe and analyze.’
