Marc Márquez maintained a good level in Jerez during Monday’s test. The Gresini rider finished fifth and, more importantly, felt considerable improvements in his work.
The Spaniard explained that he was much more precise in his feedback than in the preseason: ‘We tried small things throughout the day, but I am very happy with the test because compared to the tests in Malaysia and Qatar, there was a big difference in my feedback. In the tests in Malaysia and Qatar, I was still adapting my riding style to the bike, had some doubts, and told them “maybe yes, maybe no.” But today there was a big step in that sense, I was quite precise in my feedback. This helps the technicians to better understand my riding style. We took some steps that we will see if they can work in the upcoming races‘.
According to Márquez, this progress comes from being familiar with the bike: ‘It is because I know the bike better, and I take more advantage of the good things. Basically for me it was very good because we finished the test and it’s not like “we have doubts.” If we have this problem, we go in another direction and we will find the maximum‘.
The eight-time world champion was able to test some solutions provided by Ducati, as he mentioned: ‘We tried some things for them that the factory riders are already using. And we tried some things just because sometimes they want to know the feedback from another rider. And the most important thing is that the feedback was precise, I think it was what they expected. But at the moment, we are working a lot on the setup and basically trying to find the best with what we have‘.
