One of Marc Márquez’s challenges upon arriving at Gresini in MotoGP was to lose the riding instinct he gained after a decade at Honda. Now, he rides a Ducati, and from the beginning he acknowledged that he would need to make that adaptation.
The eight-time world champion ensured that he is leaving the riding instinct more aside: ‘Step by step, that instinct is disappearing. Of course, everyone has their own riding style, but now, step by step, I already arrive at a track and ride like a Ducati‘.
Márquez then explained that the first free practice session is the most difficult due to Honda’s riding habits, but there he realizes what he needs to adapt and change to be faster:
– It is true that FP1 is always the most difficult, because you have memories of several years, riding in a certain way, and having a trajectory. But once you understand that you are following that trajectory and you are slow, then you need to change, you need to adapt. This is what I did, and also the team helps me with the bike, this was a great improvement.
