A new session and once again the Márquez brothers were at it again, with Marc beating Álex in the dying seconds of MotoGP FP2 at Lusail, in a session where Fabio Quartararo was in excellent form, taking third.

FP2 began with Pedro Acosta leading lap after lap in 1:52.966s, ahead of Johann Zarco and Brad Binder, who completed the top three fastest riders in the first few minutes.

And very early on Álex Márquez crashed at turn 15, when he was travelling at around 140 km/h. Fortunately, despite the marks on his suit, the Gresini Racing Spaniard got up and walked away on his own two feet.

Zarco meanwhile moved to the front of the session with 1:52.825s, Binder was second and Acosta third. Luca Marini was third fastest, ahead of Fermín Aldeguer. Acosta was back in front with 22 minutes to go, however, with a time of 1:52.713s.

A couple of minutes later, the Ducati riders were joined by Marc Márquez, who was lapping in 1:52.453s, a time he improved shortly afterwards, setting a new best of 1:52.256s. Meanwhile, many of the riders made their way to the team garage, as the session was almost half over. Jorge Martín, with five laps completed, was 17th and 1.206s off the #93.

And Márquez, of course, had already left his usual mark on the track:

With 11 minutes to the end, so was the top 10:

Over the next few minutes, with practically all the riders on track – the exception being Aldeguer and Raúl Fernández – the highlight was Álex Rins, who briefly jumped up to third before dropping to fourth after Maverick Viñales came in second. The #12 was 0.248s behind Márquez, who remained the fastest. Ai Ogura in fifth was the best rookie.

Álex Márquez moved into second place, 0.022s behind his brother, in a film seen so many times this year. Zarco was third, Viñales fourth and Marco Bezzecchi now fifth. The last few minutes of the session were full of changes.

With four minutes to go, there were more changes, with Álex Márquez beating Marc and leaving his brother 0.147s behind, while Acosta moved up to fourth.

In the final seconds Fabio Quartararo moved up to third, seconds before Marc Márquez made his move and entered the second 51, leaving Álex 0.232s behind.

The session ended soon afterwards:
