Luca Marini closed the MotoGP tests in Misano at the top of the table, both in the first and second sessions, but he mentioned that a test is always different from a race weekend, so he doesn’t let himself be fooled. In addition to the times, he improved his records and found new solutions that hypothetically could be useful in the next round.
In analyzing his day, the Mooney VR46 Racing Team rider said: ‘A Monday test is a completely different situation from a race weekend. We can test changes, we can ride as much as we want without pressure, we can push and yet, it seems like there are no limits, you can hardly fall in these conditions’.
Based on the data, the engineers suggested a change in the settings, which the rider tested… and seems to have liked: ‘I tried it and it worked. Now we have to find out if this will make me faster on tracks that don’t offer as good grip as here in Misano’.
Still, Marini continued to be slower than… Jorge Martín – pole position holder, winner of the Sprint race and Sunday’s race: ‘The problem has become smaller. But in sector two, I still lose two tenths to Jorge Martín. It’s unbelievable how he can accelerate out of turn six. We found something slightly better, but not enough to keep up with him at this time’.
Afterwards, Marini admitted that the sensations he had were very good, and that he can already put into practice part of what he learned and tested in India: ‘We tried many different configurations, lap times and the feeling of the bike were always good. We tested various changes to the chassis geometry, suspension settings, and electronics. We got some ideas about the effects of the changes and now we have a lot of data to analyze. We will see in the next GP in India if we found something that gives us an advantage’.
