One of the most talked-about names in the MotoGP paddock lately has been Luca Marini, due to the imminent confirmation that his future will involve Honda. However, the Italian assures that there are no news, with the focus being on the current moment at the Qatar GP, where he sees three manufacturers potentially very competitive:
The rider from the Mooney VR46 Racing Team started by addressing the news linking him to Honda: ‘The situation is the same as on Sunday (in Sepang) after the race. I can’t say anything because there’s nothing to say beyond what I’ve already told you, except that for me it’s not an easy situation and maybe for your work it’s even worse’.
He then clarified that his focus must be on the current race weekend, where he sees Ducati, Aprilia, and KTM as potential candidates for victory:
– I am waiting like all of you and I believe that the best thing is to focus on this GP and achieve a good result, try to get a good result here. Ducati is very strong here and every year is winning races and this could also be a good race for us. It won’t be easy because everyone is in great shape: Jorge and Pecco are fighting for the championship and will also fight for victory in this race, and I also hope to see KTM and Aprilia working very well because with the repaving of the track the situation will be different compared to last year.
Marini then ensured that, given the new asphalt and the time the race is taking place this year, the plan may change from the usual: ‘Let’s see how things go. I believe that FP1 won’t be so crucial to understand everyone’s potential, but FP2 will be important because we have to test all the tires that Michelin brought us and it seems that it will be a little hotter than in March and even for the race we may have to change the front tires […]’.
