The MotoGP rules for 2027 have already been presented, and one of the aspects will be aerodynamics – with the front fairing width being reduced by 50 millimeters.
One of the intentions of the future regulations is to create more balance and better racing, but Luca Marini, a Repsol Honda rider, fears that the reduction in aerodynamic dimensions will have the opposite effect. He stated to the press:
– It’s difficult to say something now. One thing that will be crucial I think is the aerodynamics, because just to reduce the width, maybe it will create even more difference between the manufacturers because if you are clever and smart to find the way to make the aerodynamics work in a good way, will affect also on the bikes.
The Italian elaborated on his explanation: ‘I think all the engineers will invest a lot of money on this, because in these two or three years we saw how much has the category improved working on the aerodynamics side – because you can improve every area of the bike: the braking, the wheelie, the turning. I think with smaller wings will be even more crucial to find the way to make it work’.
Even with the new rules less than three years away from taking effect, Marini argued that work in the present moment and in the current generation of bikes will continue: ‘It’s too far, 2027 is too far. So for sure we need to work on the present, because also the knowledge that you find in these years will help a lot for the future’.
