The MotoGP rules for 2027 have already been presented and one of the aspects will be aerodynamics – with the front fairing having its width reduced by 50 millimeters.
One of the intentions of the future regulations is to create more balance and better races, but Luca Marini, a rider for Repsol Honda, fears that reducing the dimensions of aerodynamics will have the opposite effect. He stated to the press:
– It’s difficult to say anything now. One thing that will be crucial, I believe, is aerodynamics, because just reducing the width may create even more difference between manufacturers because if you are smart enough to find a way to make aerodynamics work well, it will also affect the bikes.
The Italian elaborated on his explanation: ‘I think all engineers will invest a lot of money in this, because in these two or three years we have seen how much the category has improved by working on the aerodynamics aspect – because you can improve all areas of the bike: braking, front wheel lift, turning. I think with smaller wings it will be even more crucial to find a way to make it work‘.
Even with the new rules less than three years away from coming into effect, Marini argued that work on the present moment and the current generation of bikes will continue: ‘It’s too far, 2027 is too far. So, we definitely need to work on the present, also because the knowledge you will find in these years will help a lot for the future‘.
