Yamaha continues to strive to return to its best level and Lin Jarvis spoke about the reasons that delayed the manufacturer compared to its competitors, expressed dissatisfaction, and revealed that at this stage, one must be confident because the problems have been identified.
The Yamaha boss talked about what caused the team to fall behind, in an interview with Michel Turco, quoted by Motosan: ‘During the pandemic, only Japanese engineers were allowed to travel. This distanced Yamaha and Honda from the competition. Between the very conservative and extremely aggressive working methods of European manufacturers and the impact of COVID, we find ourselves in the situation we are currently in’.
Despite everything, he admitted that it is important to keep our heads up and be confident about the future: ‘I have to be optimistic. At least, I am more optimistic now than I was six months ago. Now, all of us at Yamaha have accepted the problem and know what we need to change. The situation is urgent and we have to solve it’.
He also explained that work is already underway towards improvement, not only at the technical level, but also asking for innovations in other areas:
– It’s not just about acquiring new technologies and bringing new knowledge. That process has already begun and now we have to expand it to other areas. Aerodynamics has become an important topic in MotoGP and the Japanese have been slow to show interest. It is one of the areas where we need to make up for lost time, taking advantage of the expertise of specialists.
