Álex Márquez bounced back from a crash in Practice for the MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix to set the lap record at Jerez and finish as the fastest of the day – lapping in 1m36.831s to put his brother, Marc (Ducati Lenovo), 0.357s behind.

The BK8 Gresini rider said: ‘The best thing to say sorry to the team for the mistakes is to be fast. So, I was just trying to do that. The main objective was to get into Q2 and we did it quite well, and we managed it quite well’.

That said, Álex Márquez stressed he wasn’t satisfied: ‘I’m not happy with the day. We broke the record, that’s something good, but I’m not happy because we didn’t do the work we needed to do. We didn’t try a few set-up ideas that we have and the tyres. I’m not happy about that’.

Still, the #73 was pleased with his response after the crash and is aware he has a busy Saturday ahead: ‘We came back in a good way, physically I’m quite okay, so I’m ready for tomorrow and I know that I have the double of the work tomorrow’.

Asked to explain the crash during Practice, Álex Márquez admitted it was linked to overconfidence: ‘Today I rode in a too much confidence mode. I was not feeling the limit, I was just too confident with the bike, the bike was too stable and too good. So, I was just trying to push, and in the end I realized that the limit was there. So, I made a mistake this morning with the soft tyre. But also this afternoon in turn 5. We need to control that risk a bit, because today nothing happened, but it can affect us for the championship’.
