Kyle Ryde secured his first victory of the season in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at the opening race at Donington Park, which ended with a red flag after Christian Iddon’s serious accident at the Old Hairpin on lap 15. Iddon, who was conscious, was taken to the medical center with ankle pain but no fractures.
Ryan Vickers initially led from pole position but crashed on the second lap. Ryde then took the lead, followed by Leon Haslam, Danny Kent, Glenn Irwin, and Tommy Bridewell. Bridewell moved into second place when Haslam went wide on lap 13.
The race was interrupted with a red flag due to Iddon’s accident, securing Ryde’s victory by 0.559 seconds over Bridewell, with Haslam completing the podium. Danny Kent finished fourth, remaining second in the standings, just nine points behind championship leader Glenn Irwin. Max Cook achieved his best result of the season in sixth place, while Jason O’Halloran fought from the fifth row to finish eighth.
