In 2027, the MotoGP engine rules are set for a revamp, with rumors indicating a smaller displacement from the current 1,000 cubic centimeters. Currently, nothing is finalized, but there’s a direction that KTM is not considering.
Kurt Trieb, an engine designer at the Austrian manufacturer, told SPEEDWEEK.com that three-cylinder engines are excluded from their plans, as they anticipate sticking with four-cylinder engines:
– The way I see it, only four-cylinder bikes with a defined diameter will be on the grid in 2027. Therefore, three-cylinder engines are out of the question, although such a concept would be technically interesting.
Nowadays, the Moto2 World Championship uses a three-cylinder engine supplied by Triumph, while Moto3 engines are single-cylinder built by Honda and KTM.
