Three rounds from the end, KTM is in second place in the Constructors’ World Championship, having been the main opponent of the dominant and already champion Ducati. These are impressive results that make the manufacturer from Mattighofen proud, six years after entering the premier class – as sports director Pit Beirer confided.
The Austrian told the site SPEEDWEEK.com: ‘We have not achieved all our goals, but we are still proud of our performance. Because we only entered MotoGP in 2017 and are now the strongest competitor to the Ducati team – I dare to say‘.
Beirer acknowledged Ducati’s good work, but also highlighted that KTM is second in the constructors’ hierarchy by their own merit: ‘They set the benchmark, hats off to them! With eight riders, the opponents have to be very strong if they want to reach the podium or get close to it. Sometimes we missed the podium by a narrow margin in races outside Europe, but now it worked out in Thailand. That’s why we deserve to be second in the constructors’ standings. We are proud of that‘.
