KTM Factory sees evolution despite modest results in Austin: ‘The results hide some progress’, says Aki Ajo

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing came away from the Grand Prix of the Americas with mixed feelings, with Aki Ajo recognising progress despite the underwhelming results.

The weekend at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) was marked by challenging weather conditions that ultimately affected the performance of the KTM Factory riders. Aki Ajo, Team Manager, gave a pragmatic analysis of the situation.

‘Our performance on Sunday was a little better than Saturday here at COTA: ‘We can’t be satisfied with the final results or what happened, but it hides some of the progress we’re making,’ explained Ajo, recognising that despite the less expressive results, the team can identify improvements in overall performance.

One of the main challenges was the inconsistent track conditions, which particularly hurt Pedro Acosta: ‘We have to examine why Pedro was struggling in conditions that were difficult between the dry warm-up, rain on the reconnaissance lap and then a drying track that caused the race to be postponed,’ said the Austrian team manager.

On the other hand, Brad Binder showed positive signs after some changes to the set-up of his KTM: ‘On the other side of the pit box, Brad had a lot more feedback from his bike after some changes to the set-up and this was more positive and we want to see how it will work in Qatar. We should have made the top five with him,’ lamented Ajo, pointing out that the South African’s potential would have allowed for a better result.

The Team Manager also took the opportunity to highlight the good momentum of the Tech3 satellite team’s KTMs: ‘It’s good to see that both Maverick and Enea are also making steps forward in their performance: Maverick in Q2 and showing strong pace, and Enea again very strong in the race. We’re on the right track,‘ he concluded, showing optimism for the next stages of the calendar.
