In a significant announcement during the Mugello GP, Pierer Mobility AG, representing KTM, GASGAS, and Husqvarna Motorcycles, confirmed the signing of Pedro Acosta for the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team for the next two years. Acosta, a standout rookie currently fifth in the championship, will team up with Brad Binder.
KTM Executives Statements
Hubert Trunkenpolz, Vice President of the Board, Pierer Mobility AG “Securing Pedro Acosta was our top priority. We never engaged in concrete discussions with Marc Márquez for 2025. Our focus has always been Acosta. We did everything possible to secure Acosta for 2025 and 2026. There are several options to continue with him beyond that.”
Regarding the possibility of Márquez joining KTM: “No, absolutely not. Stefan Pierer, Pit Beirer, and I agree that Márquez is not an option for us. We want to give Acosta the space and opportunity to develop into an absolute superstar with us, which would not be possible if Márquez were in the adjacent box of GASGAS-Tech3.”
Regarding the future composition of the team: “Our goal is to form the Tech3 team with two riders who have achieved at least one podium in 2024. Current riders can still strive to achieve this result, but we are also in talks with other potential candidates.”
Pit Beirer, Motorsport Director, Pierer Mobility AG “Pedro Acosta’s commitment brings us great joy. He had the option to choose any team in the paddock and he chose us. This demonstrates his and his management’s confidence in our project. With Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta confirmed for the next two years, we believe we have the winning team we need.”
Impact on Current Riders The future of current KTM riders, Jack Miller and Augusto Fernández, is uncertain due to disappointing results. Enea Bastianini is a promising candidate for the Tech3 team from 2025.
Acosta’s Aspiration Acosta aims to become MotoGP World Champion while Márquez is still competing. KTM actively supports this goal.
The signing of Pedro Acosta solidifies KTM’s commitment to nurturing young talent and building a formidable team for the future. Despite rumors, KTM remains focused on its strategy and rejects the possibility of hiring Márquez.
