Kevin Benavides, champion of the 2023 Dakar and key rider for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, has been ruled out of the upcoming Desafio Ruta 40 after a serious training accident. The incident occurred on May 11 at Mantillo MX Park, near his home in Salta, Argentina. Benavides was immediately taken to the hospital, where doctors treated him for a fracture in his left arm and head injuries.
The injury is a significant setback, especially as it comes just weeks before his home rally, the Desafio Ruta 40, which will take place from June 1 to 7 in Argentina. This race was highly anticipated by both Benavides and his fans, as it represented an opportunity to compete at home.
Andreas Hölzl, manager of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rally team, commented on the situation: ‘Obviously, this is a major setback for Kevin, made worse by the fact that it happened right before his home race in Argentina. Training for the upcoming Desafio Ruta 40 was going very well, with the whole team working hard to prepare for the event. Fortunately, his injuries are not too serious and, although he is still being closely monitored, he is improving every day. It is not clear how long Kevin will be out of action, but everyone at Red Bull KTM is behind him and wishes to see him back with the team soon’.
Despite the setback, the team is optimistic about his recovery. Benavides is known for his resilience and determination, and fans are hopeful that he will return to racing soon. The entire Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team wishes Kevin a speedy and full recovery.
This incident is a reminder of the risks involved in motorsport and the resilience needed to overcome such challenges. As Benavides recovers, the focus will shift to supporting him in his rehabilitation and ensuring that he comes back stronger than ever.
