The EnduroGP World Championship season got underway, with Josep García off to a good start at the EnduroGP of Portugal in Fafe this Saturday – by leading by 4.79s.

In last night’s Super Test, Dominik Olszowy (Rieju) was the fastest, beating Zachary Pichon (TM Moto Boano) by 0.11s, with Hamish MacDonald (Sherco) third. García (Red Bull KTM) was only ninth, 2.12s behind.

But the real competition began on Saturday morning, with riders facing three laps of a circuit over 53km long. In the first Special Test of the day, García set the pace to take the lead ahead of Steven Holcombe (Honda Racing RedMoto).

These were two of Saturday’s main contenders, along with Andrea Verona (GasGas), who briefly led mid-day – after Special Test 7 (Enduro). Pichon also entered the fight, but at the end of the day, it was García who came out on top, with Pichon second 4.79s behind and Holcombe third, with Verona in fourth.

García and Pichon were the strongest in Enduro 1 and Enduro 2 respectively, while MacDonald was third and prevailed in Enduro 3.

In Junior, Kyron Bacon (MGR Kawasaki) finished at the front on this first day of the EnduroGP of Portugal, 2.09s ahead of Kevin Cristino (Fantic Factory Racing Enduro Team Specia). As for Youth, it was Romain Dagna (KTM) who got the better of Alberto Elgari (TM Moto Boano), while the best female rider was Francesca Nocera (Honda RedMoto) with a clear 1m11.41s lead over Rachel Gutish (Rieju). In Junior Woman, the strongest on Saturday was Elizabeth Tett (TM), with a 2m05.64s margin over Lorna Lafont (Sherco).
