After hinting that his race may have been sabotaged, Jorge Martín returned to the subject and left some questions in the air, but with the frustration clearly evident in how his championship contention could come to an end due to… a tire.
During the warm-up lap, just before the start of the race, there apparently were no issues: ‘No, there was nothing on the warm-up lap, only at the start,’ he began to say before continuing:
– I was the only rider on the entire grid in all categories to whom it happened, so there was certainly something wrong with the tire. Then, after about three laps, I realized it was impossible to do the same as yesterday.
Questioned about whether he has tried to speak with someone from Michelin about the anomaly, Martín clarified that for now he has only spoken with members of the Pramac team: ‘No. I only spoke with my team and it’s a shame that this happened to us. They definitely need to improve, it’s unacceptable that a MotoGP world championship be decided by a tire… Maybe it has happened to Pecco sometimes, he talked about it before, and it had never happened to me but today it was difficult to finish the race. I am happy and proud of myself because I finished the race, it was super complicated’.
And he continued: ‘I think the bike was ok, but when the tire doesn’t work, nothing works. Yesterday I was riding in the 53-second range with relative ease, but within the rhythm, and today I was 1.2 seconds off the race pace. I am a little faster than that and it’s hard to understand at the moment and certainly there are some questions to be asked to the tire supplier’.
