In the aftermath of a race that ended with the farewell to the championship lead, Jorge Martín, from Prima Pramac Racing, has been talking about his performance and potential. Just 24 hours after taking the lead, an accident during Sunday’s race caused Martín to fall, turning his lead into an 18-point disadvantage compared to Francesco ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia.
Reflecting on the race, Martín told DAZN: ‘I was quite focused, as seen from the start. This Sunday I was setting a very good pace’.
The Spanish rider was feeling comfortable during the race and was even increasing the gap to the competition when he made a “small” mistake: ‘I felt good, but there was a moment when Maverick [Viñales] seemed to be catching up to me. I pushed a little harder and managed to increase the lead to almost 3 seconds. However, I made a small mistake in turn 10, went a bit wide, touched some dirt, and in turn 11, I was on the ground. Crashes are almost always inevitable. I tried to hold on, but it wasn’t possible’.
Despite the setback, Martín remains confident in his abilities and is not discouraged: ‘I believe I am the fastest, without a doubt, and I hope to prove it in the upcoming races’.
This race had a significant impact on the championship standings. Bagnaia regained the lead, now holding an 18-point advantage over Martín.
Martín then spoke about the race and his performance: ‘Today, I made a mistake. But having speed on all tracks, having completed many races without errors, statistically, a mistake was bound to happen sooner or later. I feel frustrated that it happened today, especially on a track where I am fast. However, I believe I can dominate in many other races and regain the lead’.
Martín’s optimism and confidence in his abilities are evident, with him demonstrating his skill on the track several times and having the belief that he can recover from this setback. The upcoming races will be crucial for Martín and Bagnaia in the fight for the championship title.
