The MotoGP world championship is decided: Francesco Bagnaia is the MotoGP world champion! The Italian benefited from Jorge Martín’s crash with Marc Márquez, in a last attempt to regain positions!
Everything is set for the start of the final race of the season in which Bagnaia starts with a 14-point advantage over Martín, and, due to Maverick Viñales’ penalty, he will start from pole position. A challenging scenario for Martín who knows he is practically obliged to win while hoping that Bagnaia does not go beyond sixth place, although there are other conditions for that.
In case of a tie in points, and as confirmed by Mike Webb, Race Director, the winner will be the one with the most GP victories, with Bagnaia being the winner in this case, even if Martín wins today.
Both riders opted for the same tire selection, with the medium in the front and the hard in the rear.
The start went well for Bagnaia who took full advantage of the pole position for this race, Martín quickly moved up to second place.
With the Spanish rider 0.119s behind the Italian in the early laps, the most intense moment happened within lap three, where Martín was practically glued to the Ducati opponent, and ended up touching the back of his bike. The Pramac rider ended up touching Bagnaia and losing six positions, resuming the race in eighth. If the task was complicated for Martín, the worst scenario was hard to predict!
In the following laps, Martín improved and rose to sixth but… disaster, disaster, disaster!
Marc Márquez and Martín were involved in a crash and were out of the race.
Francesco Bagnaia is the new world champion!
