Jorge Martín entered the MotoGP World Championship in 2021 with Pramac Racing, taking on a satellite Ducati Desmosedici GP. At the time, he parted ways with KTM, where he competed in Moto2, which generated some surprise. And he had no shortage of options.
In an interview with DAZN, the Spaniard began by recalling: ‘Perhaps Ducati was one of the best at that time because it was the era of [Jorge] Lorenzo, that bike was very good, but it wasn’t winning yet; [Marc] Márquez was winning’.
Even so, Martín’s choice was to join the Borgo Panigale manufacturer, despite the abundance of offers, as he revealed: ‘I think it had a little to do with what Pecco [Bagnaia] was doing, what [Jack] Miller was doing, who were starting to get very good results with a satellite bike. I think that’s what pushed me to take the leap. It was complicated, I remember having 1,000 calls with my father. I had Yamaha, Honda, and Ducati, all in satellite teams, but I had the official bike in all three. So it was a very difficult decision, we got that offer, that great contract, and I was happy’.
