Jorge Martín has made it clear that he wants to be a factory rider for Ducati in MotoGP and, after finishing as runner-up in 2023 with the Pramac satellite team, he will have little else to prove. The rider will look for other options if he doesn’t secure the desired spot in 2025, but Jorge Lorenzo argues that first and foremost, #89 must leave no doubts for Ducati that he is the right rider.
The Spaniard told the MotoGP website: ‘I think Ducati has the power it has because they have 7/8 very competitive riders and they have already signed [Fermín] Aldeguer for four years. So now Ducati has the power, because the speed and talent of 5/6/7 riders they have are very similar, so they have many options to choose from‘.
Lorenzo then emphasized that Martín will have to provide solid evidence to Ducati that he should be the chosen one for 2025: ‘It is certain that Jorge will need to demonstrate that he can dominate the races and the championship in order to convince Ducati that he is the man. If Ducati is not so clear, and Jorge and his manager issue an ultimatum to Ducati, perhaps Ducati will choose another rider. Therefore, he needs to show on the track that he is faster than Pecco [Bagnaia] and the other Ducati riders. This way, Ducati will have no doubts, I believe‘.
