The fourth place did not leave Jorge Martín particularly happy but also not completely unsatisfied, as in the end he was able to score some important points in the championship fight, even though he is not thinking about the championship for now.
To the journalists, the Pramac Racing rider spoke about the race like this: ‘I thought it would be worse in terms of physical condition, we are fine, but it was complicated with the soft tire. I had no other option but to go with the soft because I didn’t try the medium, the only option was the soft. I tried to manage it in the beginning and was even getting a small advantage over Marc [Márquez] and Pedro [Acosta] but I made a mistake in turn 11 and went wide, I think on lap eight or nine, and then they caught me and overtook me because I wasn’t super strong on braking and from there I tried to combine everything, maintain the pace. I gave my 100% in the last laps but Enea [Bastianini] had something extra and well… fourth place is not what I wanted but 20 points this weekend. It was a good weekend, it was a reasonable result’.
Martín ensured that, despite leading the championship, he does not think much about the standings: ‘I am not currently looking at the standings, I don’t like to think about it but the points we are scoring are for that reason [for the championship] and I am happy with that. We already have 80 points, it’s a lot, so we have to be happy and stay on this line, this way, because we are working well and only focused on ourselves and trying to improve on last season’s results’.
He also recalled that the Austin track is not his best, which, considering the points earned, left him happy: ‘This is a track where I had many difficulties in the past and we got a lot of points and it is certainly better to be in the lead than in tenth, so I am happy’.
