Jorge Martín is the leader of the MotoGP World Championship since the Portuguese GP, even managing to withstand the retirement at the Spanish GP. After five rounds, he seems to be, once again, a strong title contender after being the runner-up in 2023.
However, the season is still long: there are 16 rounds left, which equates to 32 races (16 Sprint and 16 main races). And each Grand Prix has 37 points to award, so nothing is guaranteed for Martín despite leading at this stage.
And the Prima Pramac rider keeps his feet on the ground, being aware of that. In a press conference, he emphasized that it is important to be at the front, but he will only think about it in the final phase of the season:
– I think [I will think about the championship] at the end of the season. It is certain that it is important to be in the lead, it is important to be ahead of the others, but I believe it will be interesting when we have the chance to win the championship. Until that moment, it doesn’t make sense to look at that. It is certainly a good feeling – since Portimão, so for over a month leading. This means that we are the strongest, it also means some power for contracts. I am happy to be leading.
