Jorge Martín was third in yesterday’s Sprint race at the MotoGP Grand Prix of the Americas, and although the main race is still pending, it is almost certain that the Prima Pramac rider will leave Austin as he arrived: at the top of the championship.
With Saturday’s results, the Spaniard extended his lead to 24 points, with Enea Bastianini (Ducati) now in second place. With the main race victory worth 25 points, the Italian would need to win and Martín finish 15th or worse to be overtaken.
Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) is third, 25 points behind, so the most he can do is equal the current championship leader. What definitely won’t happen is Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) catching up to his rival in last year’s title fight, as he is 28 points behind.
It’s another proof that the start of the season has been strong for Martín. The Spaniard has not missed the podium this year, in either the Sprint races or the main races, already accumulating 67 points with the third GP not yet completed.
