In the year he arrives at Gresini and on a Ducati bike, Marc Márquez is already seen by many as one of the potential candidates for the MotoGP title. However, Jorge Lorenzo is more cautious in his analysis.
The three-time world champion of the premier category told the official championship website: ‘After the first day in Valencia, in his debut on the Ducati, it was so impressive, everyone was thinking that Marc would win almost every race. But I don’t think it will be like that – as we saw in Sepang, he had some difficulties. And I have some question marks about Marc this year’.
Right away, the rider from Palma de Mallorca talked about the technical aspects – Márquez’s adaptation to the Desmosesdici GP23, as well as how much the bike for this year, the GP24, has evolved:
– The first [question mark] is how long he will need to fully understand the Ducati, which seems like he still hasn’t fully grasped how to ride the bike – he is still riding it like he rode the Honda. And the second question mark should be, how big will the difference be between the 2023 Ducati and the 2024 Ducati – how much Ducati has evolved its bike in just one year, because the difference is very big. Jorge Martín and Pecco Bagnaia are two of the best riders, they are very explosive and fast. And if they have a better bike than Marc, who also has no experience with Ducati, this could be very important.
On the other hand, Lorenzo talked about the physical aspect and the right arm that Márquez injured in 2020: ‘The third question mark would be his physical condition. Is his arm fully recovered? Or does he still need some time to reach his maximum? Or will he never be the same physically speaking? Only he and his personal team know’.
