After two years at Ducati that did not have the intended results in a timely manner, Jorge Lorenzo moved to Repsol Honda in the 2019 MotoGP season. There he found the then five-time world champion of the premier category, Marc Márquez, as a teammate – in the reference team of the pack.
More than four years after his last season in MotoGP, the three-time world champion admitted on the podcast Tengo un Plan that he lived 2019 with great intensity: ‘I have always been very observant and I think it is free information, it costs practically nothing. Until it became obsessive, in 2019 I practically didn’t live; it was all work and dedication. I really wanted to win with that Honda that took so many riders: it took [Dani] Pedrosa, Pol Espargaró, two-time world champions. Joan Mir is also having a lot of difficulties and Marc Márquez had no choice but to leave, and it also took me away‘.
Lorenzo admitted that he developed an obsession when balance was needed: ‘I was obsessed, I only worked, and that’s another question: always trying to find the compromise between enjoying and discipline. And that’s not easy, sometimes I wasn’t happy because I worked too much, you also have to have moments where you allow yourself to have whims, some small reward for a job well done, some celebration, eating badly one day, going to the movies, moments of happiness and leisure, otherwise your head explodes‘.
