In 2016, Jorge Lorenzo decided to put an end to a long connection with Yamaha in MotoGP to pursue a new challenge – as he needed different stimuli. His choice was Ducati, which at the time was far from the success it has shown in recent years.
The rider from Palma de Mallorca told the podcast Tengo un Plan that he trusted the existing potential with general manager Gigi Dall’Igna, even comparing it to Lewis Hamilton’s move to Mercedes in Formula 1:
– I knew that Gigi Dall’Igna, who had been with me at Derbi in the 125cc, would make Ducati the best bike. He is very stubborn and achieves everything he sets out to do. It was like when Hamilton left McLaren to go to Mercedes, a team that had never won anything, but he knew he would have the best F1 car. I had that same intuition.
