It’s almost goodbye to Jonathan Rea from Kawasaki with Jerez hosting the final round of the Superbikes World Championship this weekend. It will be Rea’s last dance with the manufacturer that has been with him for the past seven years and with which he has won six world titles, making it a very emotional moment as the rider aims to leave on a high note.
Looking ahead to the decisive round in the championship where the champion will be crowned, Rea first reflected on the mental aspect, with the farewell to the team in sight: ‘It’s a strange feeling going to Jerez knowing it’s my last round with KRT and I’m sure it will be an emotional weekend with the team’.
The #65 then spoke about the work that will take place on the Spanish circuit: ‘On track we will try to do the best job possible. It is a track that may have been difficult for us, but we also shared great moments, winning races. It was also the scene of my first World Championship victory with Kawasaki. We did many laps there in winter testing, so we have a good idea of the setup’.
Rea continued his analysis, keeping the championship position in mind: ‘Of course, the Ninja ZX-10RR has evolved throughout the year and we have taken steps in a positive direction. I really want to finish the year strong for my team. We are still fighting for third place in the championship. The main goal for the weekend is to enjoy the bike and do the best job possible, but also ensure that we can reach the top three in the World Championship’.
The British rider then concluded with a clear wish: ‘I want to try to enjoy the weekend with my team. All the preparation for the weekend, the entire weekend, and of course, post-race, reflecting on the fantastic partnership it has been – I am sure it will be an emotional weekend. I hope to give a good account of myself and make the team proud’.
