After two rounds of the season, everyone seems to have put any doubts about Pedro Acosta’s potential to rest, and the Portuguese GP served as a confirmation of his value for many, as he had never raced with a MotoGP bike before. One of them is John McGuinness, winner of several races on the Isle of Man.
In the first round of the World Championship in Losail, Acosta already showed a glimpse of what he can do on track, but he dropped in the standings (in the main race) due to poor tire management. However, some believe that he stood out due to his experience in testing before the start of the action in the first round. And what about Portugal? The weekend in Portimão was crucial to understand that the rookie is indeed very strong, believes McGuinness, in statements to MCN and quoted in Motosan:
– I said that Portimão could be a real challenge for him because it’s a difficult track, with ups and downs, and he had never ridden a MotoGP bike there before, but he proved me wrong. We have to praise him because he is a true gem and whenever he’s on track, it’s hard to take your eyes off him.
The Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 rider is the third youngest of all time to achieve a podium in his debut season, behind names like Marc Márquez or Fabio Quartararo, both former MotoGP world champions.
