Johann Zarco completes his last round at Prima Pramac in the MotoGP Valencia Grand Prix. The team is already champion, now fighting for the title with Jorge Martín – in which his teammate may have a say despite not being directly involved.
The #5 admitted he won’t be feeling too nostalgic, staying focused on the task at hand: ‘Not too much, because I am too focused on what we have to do, trying to perform. And immediately on Sunday night we will change garages the next day and ride a different bike on Tuesday. So, there is not much time to be nostalgic. And I am very happy to have another challenge, to start a new chapter, turn the page‘.
For this last race, Zarco has the podium in mind, but also knows that he may have to help Martín in the fight for the title: ‘I would like to finish on the podium, this would be great for the end in Valencia. It’s a good track. Back in Europe there are cool temperatures, but we can handle it well. It seems that in the afternoon it will be good to ride and we would like to perform well because it was frustrating not being able to be at the top in Qatar. I think I was thinking too much about this team strategy and I really need to try to do my best and maybe if we need a strategy or think about Jorge’s title, I need to do it only in the last three laps if I have to make a decision. In Qatar I felt that this blocked me a little sometimes. In the end I did my best, but 12th place doesn’t bring many points‘.
Asked if he might receive a signal from the team to help Martín, the Frenchman replied: ‘Maybe, yes. Anyway there are things that the team doesn’t need to tell me, I’m not like the other riders‘.
