The MotoGP season has not been easy for Honda. At the Americas GP about two weeks ago, they were clearly the least competitive manufacturer, not having the arguments to go beyond the last places. Johann Zarco, from LCR Honda, does not let this affect his levels of optimism before the Spanish GP.
The Frenchman believes he may have some references to be better prepared in Jerez: ‘Once again, it will be a good Grand Prix to gather information on how the bike is performing, because in the last two rounds we were not prepared for Sunday, and I missed Sunday. And here with all the laps that Stefan Bradl did, we certainly have some references that can create a base‘.
Next, Zarco stated: ‘We wish to perhaps make a small reset on where we can go, because maybe we had tried different things in Portimão and in Austin that did not help. This helps to gather a lot of information, but it did not help to give me a better feeling. So, let’s see here. I hope we are good, and I always believe that things can work out‘.
Questioned about whether it was difficult to maintain a positive mindset in the past few weeks after Austin, #5 replied: ‘I did some training with the Super Moto and I really enjoyed it. Because I am clearly trying to develop myself, I was able to do so in Super Moto. I had a Super Moto with a lot of vibrations to get very close to the MotoGP bike, and I try to adapt to this vibration. It was like working with a difficult bike to be able to adapt better if I have a problem during the race or during practice. But I am optimistic, clearly, because it is very early in the season. And even if it is late in the season, I have enough experience to stay positive‘.
