Joel Kelso set the fastest-ever Moto3 lap at Le Mans so far to lead the second free practice session of the French GP, held this morning.
At the start of the session, David Muñoz (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP/KTM) and José Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) traded places at the top, until Rueda laid down a lap that solidified his lead with 11 minutes gone.
The championship leader was beaten 16 minutes later by Kelso (LevelUp-MTA/KTM), but shortly after, Álvaro Carpe (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Adrián Fernández (Leopard Racing/Honda) moved ahead.
With about two minutes remaining, Kelso clocked a 1m39.885s lap – a new Moto3 record for the circuit. Fernández improved but finished second, 0.141s behind, with Carpe third at 0.200s off the pace.
The top five was completed by David Almansa (Leopard Racing/Honda) and Luca Lunetta (SIC58 Squadra Corse/Honda). Rueda didn’t improve enough in the final minutes, ending up only seventh.
