Joe Roberts led the first practice of the Spanish Moto2 Grand Prix. The American rider finished the session with over two tenths of an advantage, thanks to a time set on the 15th of his 20 laps. Arón Canet suffered a crash and got injured, missing the Jerez round.
After the first flying laps, Zonta van der Goorbergh (RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP/Kalex) was leading the session. He was later surpassed by Fermín Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro), but the Dutchman reacted quickly and returned to the top of the timing charts.
Van der Goorbergh led for over 20 minutes before being beaten by Ai Ogura (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro). Sergio García did even better than his teammate, but it was Roberts who prevailed at the end.
The OnlyFans American Racing Team rider clocked a time of 1m40.664s about ten minutes before the end and ended up in first place. Aldeguer was second 0.234s behind, with García in third. Marcos Ramírez (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex) and Ogura completed the top five.
Canet (Fantic Racing/Kalex) crashed at the end of this session, ruling him out of the remainder of the Spanish Grand Prix due to a diagnosed ankle fracture.
