Joe Roberts secured his first pole position of the season in Moto2 this afternoon. In qualifying for the Italian GP, the rider also set a new lap record at the Mugello circuit.
Alonso López (MB Conveyors SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) was the first to complete a lap, but was later overtaken by Manuel González (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex), who was then surpassed by Sergio García (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro).
The championship leader remained in the lead until, in the final minutes, he was beaten by Roberts. The OnlyFans American Racing rider set a lap time of 1m49.877s, which is a new Mugello record, leaving García 0.078s behind.
López improved at the end, but could only manage third place, followed by González and Darryn Binder (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP/Kalex) in the top five. The second row of the grid will be completed by Marcos Ramírez (OnlyFans American Racing/Kalex) in sixth.
