The Americas MotoGP race does not bring good memories to Honda. The bikes from the Japanese manufacturer were clearly the least competitive in Austin. Joan Mir was unable to finish the main race, abandoning due to a crash while trying to regain positions.
The rider from Palma de Mallorca admitted that he made a mistake at the start and then, when he had managed to find a rhythm, he crashed after losing control of the RC213V:
– I had a very bad start, and the issue when you have a very bad start from the last row is that you end up last in the first corner. Then I started to set some pace. We are having a lot of problems at the moment, and when I was able to warm up more or less, catch the group ahead, which was the group where Fabio [Quartararo] and the Aprilia riders were, I lost the rear in turn six and then I crashed.
In the coming weeks, Honda will have two important tests, as Mir revealed: ‘There is not much to say. It’s a shame, but we are not on the right track at all. We have an important test in Montmeló, and then in Jerez we will have another one. There we will understand if we have taken a step forward for the middle of the season‘.
