Dutch KTM rider achieves perfect victory in Latvia with dominant double triumph

Jeffrey Herlings once again confirmed his absolute dominance at the Kegums circuit, claiming his ninth overall victory at this emblematic Latvian sand track in the eleventh round of the 2025 FIM Motocross World Championship. The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider completed a perfect weekend with two categorical triumphs, matching his best record at a single venue, as he also has nine victories at Valkenswaard in the Netherlands.

Romain Febvre rides the wind to victory, extending his championship lead in dazzling fashion

The first moto began with an intense battle between the KTM riders, with Lucas Coenen securing his eighth Fox Holeshot Award of the season, forcing Herlings to the inside of the first turn. This maneuver briefly allowed Romain Febvre to occupy second position, but “The Bullet” reacted immediately, cutting through the deep sand to overtake the Frenchman at the third corner. When Coenen made a small mistake at the next turn, Herlings capitalized with a double jump pass, a move that would prove decisive for the final result.

The drama intensified with Brian Bogers from Fantic making a spectacular pass on Febvre to take third place, while the championship leader found himself constantly frustrated in his attempts to progress. The situation became even more complicated for Febvre when he crashed at the second corner after the finish line on lap eleven, dropping to seventh place behind Ben Watson. Subsequently, a brilliant move by Glenn Coldenhoff over his Fantic teammate Bogers and an impressive overtake by Ruben Fernandez with a long jump in front of the fans shaped the final classification.

Coenen remained close to Herlings throughout, getting within one second of the leader and nearly taking the lead when the Dutchman missed an inside line in a left-hand corner. However, Herlings managed to resist the pressure and won with a 1.3-second margin over the young Belgian, while Coldenhoff completed the podium 56 seconds behind the leaders. This 16th race victory at Kegums elevated Herlings to ninth place in the championship, overtaking Jeremy Seewer.

In the second moto, despite Coenen again securing the holeshot, Herlings immediately demonstrated his class by regaining the lead at the second corner and building an advantage he maintained until the end. With faster track conditions due to the sun drying the circuit, the race provided several exciting battles, but no rider could seriously threaten the supremacy of the “King of Kegums,” who recorded his 109th Grand Prix victory of his career.
