Moto2 had Jake Dixon as the fastest rider in FP2, which took place this morning in Austin, counting towards the GP of the Americas. The rider was regularly among the fastest but only confirmed the best time towards the end, with two very competitive laps with less than five minutes left in the session.

The session had Manuel González, the championship leader, as one of the initial highlights, with a time of 2:09.584s, although initially he had Deniz Oncu as his closest rival, but the Turk was beaten by Filip Salac, who was still not at the same pace as the leader.

González improved his time by just over a tenth of a second, setting the mark at 2:09.442s, which left Salac 0.413s behind, and soon after he accelerated again to complete a lap in 2:08.791s.

With the session halfway through, Dixon was 0.525s behind the Spaniard, at a time when many riders were in their respective teams’ garages.

Alonso López crashed at Turn 11 but fortunately he was uninjured and appeared to be in good physical condition.

FP2 was moving quickly towards the final stages until five minutes from the end Dixon took the lead with a lap of 2:08.479s, a time that would be improved once again by #96 to 2:08.216s.

Dixon thus ended the day with the best time so far in Moto2, 0.329s ahead of Filip Salac and Arón Canet.
