The qualifying races for the MXGP of Spain in the Motocross World Championship took place this Saturday, with Jago Geerts (MXGP) and Thibault Benistant (MX2) claiming victories.

In MXGP, the premier class, Geerts (Monster Energy Yamaha) got off to a strong start and led most of the race, but in the final minutes was overtaken by Romain Febvre (Kawasaki).
However, the Frenchman made a mistake that Geerts capitalised on to retake the lead. From then on, the Belgian held his position, crossing the finish line 10.010s ahead of Febvre. Maxime Renaux (Monster Energy Yamaha) finished third.

Simon Längenfelder (Red Bull KTM) was second at the end of the opening lap, but spent the rest of the race in third, where he finished ahead of Liam Everts (Red Bull KTM).
