Owner of the 14th fastest time on the third day of testing in Sepang, Jack Miller gave a clearly positive assessment of his work over the three days in Malaysia. Nevertheless, despite achieving his best lap time on the track, he understands that it is necessary to find ‘the second’ that is missing to be on par with the fastest riders.
The KTM rider had his best lap in 1:57.851s and spoke about the final day as follows: ‘It was a decent day, the bike is working very well and I am very happy with the improvements made during the winter. The fastest lap I’ve ever done in 1:57.8s, still 1s off the other guys and we have to find something more. I feel much more confident going into the race this year already, more than last year, and I think we were able to find more of the things we needed to understand how to take the bike package forward. Another very positive day for us’.
For the Australian, it is now important to “gain” more time, and he has a better idea of which direction to go: ‘Now it’s time to rest, reflect and figure out where we can find another second. We know more or less [what we will find in Qatar] or a version of it. We tested countless versions of the bike and I believe that, among us, we have a clear understanding of the direction to take in terms of electronics, where there has been a great improvement. There are small things that we can fine-tune, obviously being a new system. Everything is working fine’.
Brad Binder, among the riders commanding the KTM RC16, was the fastest.
